-Square nails; hand-planed; cast iron hinges "F & G Clark"; blunt screws.
-The doors are adorned with long panels cut in a gothic design; simple cornice; shaped bottomrail; one large sliding dovetail drawer for bedding.
-A few coats of paint have been removed to reveal a sharp red on a yellow primer.

PINE CHAPEAU-DE-GENDARME CORNER CABINETt; circa 1830-50
-Cabinet made.
-Square nails; hand-planed and carved mouldings; mortise-and-tenon joints and pegs; quarter-sawn wood; assembled with post stiles; cast-iron Baldwin type hinges with blunt screws.
-The door is ornamented with a long raised panel adorned with a chapeau-de-gendarme motif.
-A few coats of paint have been removed to reveal a deep-rose color affixed on a plaster pearl-white primer.

BUTTERNUT BEDROOM ARMOIRE; circa 1880
-Small factory-made furniture.
-Square nails; mortise-and-tenon joints; mechanically planed wood.

-The interior is deep enough to accomodate clothes hangers (16" / 40cm).
-Original finish : clear varnish or shellac

PINE STEP-BACK ARMOIRE; circa 1850
-Dresser of rustic craftsmanship.
-Square nails; mortise-and-tenon joints; hand-planed.
-The doors are embellished with central raised panels, so are the small drawers which are profile moulded.
-The front and the right side have been painted, along 1900, with two tones of yellowish green over its original ink-blue on a red primer which still remains intact on its left side. Dampness and frost have affected these added paints, giving them a speckled tinge.

-Cabinet made of Louis-XIII influence.
-Forged nails; finely hand-planed quarter-sawn wood; mortise-and-tenon joints and pegs; assembled with post stiles with chamfered endings; rat-tail hinges; profile mouldings.
-The overlapping door has two raised panels, while both sides have sunken ones.
-Several coats of paint were removed to reveal a two toned pale blue over a red primer.

-Piece meant to store prepared food, also called jelly-cupboard.

-The door is assembled with incised tongue-rails.

-In the armoire a note has been found with the inscription "Don de Z. Laflèche, rue Maisonneuve, Hull."
-The original dark green colour has become almost black.

-One side is equipped with shelves; the other has wooden hooks to hang clothing.
-It retains its original burgundy red finish which never has been altered.

-Several coats of paint have been removed to reveal the original apple-green colour. A coat of fire red paint, which was applied along 1920, was left as is over the green in certain spots in the process of stripping, to add character to this piece.
-Provenance : found in Saint-Barthélemy (Lanaudière, Québec)

-Cabinet made of Adam influence.
-Forged nails; finely planed quarter-sawn wood; all mortise-and-tenon joints and pegs; post stiles; cast-iron hinges of “Baldwin” type; blunt screws.
-The façade is frame-moulded. The doors and sides are hollow paneled with applied mouldings. The crown-moulding is slightly slanted on the sides.
-One side is provided with shelves, while the other is equipped with cast-iron hooks
-A few coats of paint have been removed to reveal this unusual orange and black faux-fini which was applied along 1850-60. Its original colour, still concealed, appears to be some kind of a pale blue-green.
-Provenance : Verchères (Québec)

-Architectural piece of rustic Chippendale influence used either as a dresser or a bookshelf.
-Assembled with screws and square round-head nails; hand-planed; the columns are sculpted; the crown-moulding is most impressive.
-It never had any door, and the shelves are ajustable.
-Several
coats of paint have been removed to reveal a dark forest-green over a red primer while the inside is Indian-red. Residues of a yellow paint still remain all over the outside.
